Buddy Holic

Buddy Holic was formed in 2012. The band is: Wayne Schmidt – Vocals/Guitars – Pat Darcus – Doghouse Bass/Background Vocals – Steve Tomiuk – Rythm Guitar/Keyboards/Bass/Background Vocals.

Wayne Schmidt – Vocals & Guitar
At the age of nine Wayne Schmidt (Vocals/Guitars) started to sing, and play guitar. A close friend played him a Buddy Holly 78 rpm record of “I’m gonna Love You Too”, and that’s all it took to start taking music seriously.

Wayne has played guitar, and fronted the progressive rock band “Nomadic Sanctuary” for a number of years, and has played in bands in many genres such as Hard Rock, Blues, Folk, and Country. Nomadic Sanctuary opened shows for Blue Oyster Cult, and Nick Gilder, and Sweeney Todd.

Many years later he recorded a CD of Buddy Holly songs for fun. Liking how they came out he decided to form a tribute band. “my friends heard the stuff, and they told me that I should put something together since you have the Strat, the right build etc; ” I was doing so much research on Buddy Holly that my wife came into the studio one day, and she called me a Buddy Holic. I needed a name for the band, and there it was” Wayne also played guitar in Femme Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin Tribute), and writes original music with Steve Tomiuk in their band called Conscientious Objectors.

Pat Darcus – Doghouse Bass & Background Vocals
Bassist Pat Darcus moved from Victoria to Vancouver some 25 years ago to study music at Capilano College. Since then he has participated in the good the bad and the ugly of the Vancouver music scene; gigging and recording with many Blues, Rockabilly, R&B, Pop, C&W, etc; artists over that time. While he is also playing with a number of bands (the Deadcats, Sandy Bone & the Breakdown, reBeat Generation, Leonard & the Labrats…) he relishes the opportunity to immerse himself in the greatness that was/is Buddy Holly and bring him and his music back to life. Oh Boy!

Here are some reviews:
“Another band that is rapidly becoming a Vancouver favorite as well is Buddy Holic. This unique and hauntingly accurate tribute to Buddy Holly appeals to a large cross-section of people. It celebrates the music of a man who had uncanny talent for writing songs, but remains under-appreciated today. The singer even looks like Buddy Holly, which is disconcerting after 8 or 9 whiskeys.” by Serge Lotosky.

Brandon Isaak

Brandon is a favourite here in Chilliwack and especially at Bozzini’s where he has been joining us for almost a decade.

This guy lives and breathes the blues. Brandon Isaak is an authentic, heart felt roots and blues songster who always delivers the goods. Be it as his one-man band, his dynamic duo, his hard-hitting trio or even his five piece Saints of Swing all-star group. You always get 100% of this artist.

Born in Whitehorse,Yukon to a family who has always been in the music business. His folks owed a couple of blues clubs. His father, Ed Isaak, is a full-time musician and has been his whole life. Young Isaak grew up in a bluesy, artistic and musical atmosphere which shaped his identity and future profession. He backed up many blues masters who would take up a three week residency in his family’s clubs. This is where he learned his chops and cut his teeth and begun the journey to the gritty, soulful player he is today.

Brandon is an award winning musician with a passion and a thirst for the history of music and origins of the blues, and it shows in his live shows. He is an entertainer as well as a gifted musician. “Entertaining an audience and making a connection with them is as important as great music and lyrics”. So many artists today just sit and play and don’t connect with their audiences.

Brandon’s affinity for the rawness and spontaneity of the blues is second to none, as anyone who has had the privilege of being a part of his audience will tell you. He brings a firebrand style of guitar as well as incredibly stirring vocals that truly has to be witnessed to be appreciated! He is VERY much in the moment as he rips it up, and we know you’ll be impressed with the caliber of showmanship within his performance of songs & stories by this great Canadian artist.

Leah Nicole Barley

Making her Bozzini’s debut, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Leah Barley offers stirring original songs that evoke both the jubilation and heartbreak inherent to classic folk and country music. An accomplished banjo player as well as guitarist, Barley creates a sound as affecting today as it was a century ago.

Her first full-length album Bring Out Your Dead, released in October 2020, almost perfectly balances Barley’s light-and-shade approach to songwriting. It’s all a product of Barley’s love of old-time country and bluegrass, which inspired her to pick up the banjo in her early twenties while living in Canmore, Alberta. After a couple of months getting her feet wet at open mic nights, she released the first of three EPs in 2010 after moving to Vancouver. Since 2013, Barley has played in many parts of Canada, both solo and with other bands on the festival circuit, and was a featured performer at JUNOfest 2018, as well as on CBC Music.

Bring Out Your Dead will brilliantly serve as Leah Barley’s calling card, and formally mark the arrival of a vital new voice in Canadian roots music.
