Whether he’s playing a heart wrenching ballad on the keys, breaking out the harmonica blues, strumming on his banjo, or reciting his unmatchable spoken word, C.R. Avery always puts on a memorable performance.
“C.R. Avery is a phenomenon, and every Canadian should know that he’s ours. I could say more, but what I most hope is that you will get to experience him for yourself,” says veteran Canadian musician Corin Raymond.
From musical beginnings in his late teens, C.R. Avery has recorded over 15 albums and has written and directed six hip-hop operas, which were performed from New York’s Bowery to L.A.’s South Central.
He’s toured throughout Canada, hitting up nearly every major folk festival, the United States and Europe. He’s garnered the attention of music industry peers including Tom Waits, Charlie Musselwhite and folk legend Utah Phillips.
His incredible live performances have been described as Bob Dylan in the body of Iggy Pop; colliding with Little Walter, the Beastie Boys and Allen Ginsberg. Every show is all or nothing, and his fearless approach to all genres of music both on stage and in the studio proves the longevity of this talented, astonishing creator.
“ Avery is raw talent. “ -Utah Phillips
“ No one plays harmonica like him, no one. “ – Charlie Musselwhite
