SUMMARY:Sean Burns (Early Show)
DESCRIPTION:Sean Burns\nFriday Oct 2 Doors 4:00 Show 5:30\nTickets $ 27.50 at Bozzini’s or call 604 792 0744 to reserve\nSo excited to have one of our original favourites back at Bozzini’s after way too long. Sean Burns last performed at Bozzini’s as we celebrated our 36’th Anniversary 8 years ago sharing the stage with heavy hitters Jim Byrnes & Gurf Morlix and he more than held his own. So\, grab your tix & settle in for a night of country music (the real kind) \nAfter paying tribute to Canada’s forgotten country music heroes on the 2023 covers album Lost Country—which Lonesome Highwaycalled “a contender for one of the best albums this year” and Country Music Peoplecalled “required listening”—Sean Burns is back with an all-original 10-song collection entitled Better Off In Time &Other Songs For The Dance Floor.\nRecorded at Winnipeg’s No Fun Club with co-producers Skinny Dyck and Scott Franchuk\, the album features Burns and his band\, guitarist Chris Dunn\,drummer Joanna Miller and pedal steel guitarist Dan Russell\, along with several guests including legendary piano player FloydDomino (Asleep At The Wheel\, Merle Haggard) who sent in his tracks from his home in Austin\, Texas. For Burns\, who also plays bass in Corb Lund’s Hurtin’ Albertans\, making Better Off In Time…was in many ways a matter of taking care of unfinished business that was disrupted by the pandemic. Over half the songs were written in 2018 and 2019\, while others came together over the past few years whenever Burns was inspired to write while on tour. In the end\, the pieces fell into place once Burns had the right group of musicians and some time to record.\n“I took the songs that were already mostly written and tuned them up\,” he explains. “There were some lyrical and arrangement changes made\, but it all came together pretty naturally. We hashed the songs out as a band\, which culminated with a pair of gigs we’d booked that reallyserved as live rehearsal. We always try to capture a live feelwhen we record\, but this album probably has more overdubs than other records I’ve made.\n”Overall\, fans of Sean’swork will be thrilled to hear him and the band continue to revitalize the sound of classic honky tonk\, with song titles such as “When The Heartaches Call\,” “I Do My Crying Alone” and “Lord\, I Hate To See Myself This Way” speaking volumes. Indeed\, the hard luck story told in the first single “Glory For Me” sets a high bar for the rest of Better Off In Time…\, further accentuated by Sean’s soaring vocal performance.\n“‘Glory For Me’ is one of three songs that Skinny and I co-wrote in that 2018-2019 period when we were touring together\,” Sean says. “I think all the new songs touch on a similar theme of the protagonist being down and out\, or at best\, the underdog. Maybe we were seeing some of ourselves in these characters as we were out there grinding on the road to little or no fanfare.\n”Such detail iscommon practice for Sean Burns\, whose encyclopedicknowledgeof country music has been establishedthrough his long-running radio show and early thematic solo albums. While there certainly are some lyrical connections on Better Off In Time…\, Sean says that if there is a theme to the album\, it’s more in the overall sound.\n“I fell deeper and deeper down the well of Texas dancehall country music made by artists like Johnny Bush and Amber Digby\, as well as the earlier era of Ray Price and Faron Young. I was spinning a lot of that music on my radio program andwas immersed in the stylethose bands play down there. I could have gone to Texas to make this album\, but I had assembled a good band at home so I thoughtwe could put our own spin on that Texas dancehall sound.\n”As with all of Sean Burns’ work\, it’s notnecessary to be familiar with the theme he’s presenting. The songs stand on their own as not only a reminder of what country once was\, but what it will always be\, the music that maintains our unbreakable human bonds. \nWhat they’re saying… \n“Sean Burns joins the growing number of under the radar independent artists who clearly love to listen to and play classic country; albeit from their own point of view with original songs and well chosen covers. Top notch music for all occasions – if those occasions demand a cool band building a head of steam on some hot songs.” – LONESOME HIGHWAY \n“If modern country is no longer country\, and alt-country is the new country\, then where can possibly find new “old country”? The answer to to this is Sean Burns and Lost Country\, who are exactly what I’ve been holding out for.” GREAT DARK WONDER \n“Sean Burns is a hugely talented Canadian singer-songwriter who plays a brand of country music from way out on the left of the mainstream.” American Roots U.K. \n“He puts his heart into every record and carries high the flag of honky-tonk that can now only be found in independent productions” – PLANET COUNTRY \n“Burns has the raw yet smooth country vocals that pull together an album of this caliber\, and the steel guitar sounds on the album are a reminder of what most modern country is missing.” – CANADIAN BEATS \n“Burns captures the grittiness of troubadour life and creates a style that hits home to fans of Canadiana\, Americana\, Folk\, Country\, and Blues music world-wide.” – THE COUNTRY NOTE

SUMMARY:Little Miss Higgins Trio + Guests at Cultus Lake Pub
DESCRIPTION:Little Miss HigginsSaturday Oct 3Doors 6:00 Show 7:30Tickets $ 32.74 on sale now through Eventbrite& If available at the door\n\nLittle Miss Higgins and her band usually play Bozzini’s but we’re gonna switch it up this year and welcome them at our sister venue at the Cultus Lake Pub – where there are “NO STAIRS”\n\nThe Harvest Tour 2026\n\nAnother celebration of the bounty through song and story with country blues artist Little Miss Higgins. With tunes of new and old\, The Harvest Tour is a crisp reminder of what’s to come. Higgins cultivates not only a heartwarming stage show with a Manitoba Ruckus of a band\, but also a traveling market feel on the merch table with LMH home grown garlic\, handmade soap\, and much more.\n\nThe premiere run of the Harvest Tour in 2024 had packed houses and an overwhelming response to the garlic–sold out before the tour was over. With double the crop waiting in the winter wings\, Higgins cannot wait\, not only to strut around onstage\, but share the bounty of the harvest.\n\nFrom the Great Northern Plains\, Little Miss Higgins struts and serenades her way onto any stage playing music brewed in early country blues\, jazz and folk. A Playing\, touring\, collaborating and recording for over 15 years\, this musician and mother now navigates her time through performing and parenthood.\n\nHer six independently released albums and artwork have received many awards and nominations\, including a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for her latest collection of songs\, MY HOME\, MY HEART (2017). Recorded at The Song Shop in Winnipeg\, Manitoba\, this album’s sound remains true to Higgins’ roots\, but ventures into new territory. Co-produced with Scott Nolan and engineered by Jamie Sitar of Outta Town Sound\, this album is an effortless addition to her impressive body of work.\n\nLittle Miss Higgins (aka Jolene Higgins) was born in Brooks\, Alberta\, and raised in Independence\, Kansas. Music entered her life early. “When I was about four my dad brought home an old mini-grand piano and told me it was mine. I carved my name in the side of it and then I had to start taking piano lessons.”\nHiggins now uses guitar and voice as her main instruments as well as her theatre background to bring a refreshing sound and story to the stage. Higgins settled in Saskatchewan from 2002-2013 and that’s when music took the driver’s seat. Over that time she built her career touring across Canada performing in clubs\, theatres and festivals.\n\nAs a songwriter and musician\, Higgins has been influenced by a range of artists from Memphis Minnie and Billie Holiday to Joni Mitchell and Dolly Parton as well as the vast array of Canadian and International musicians and bands she has had the fortune to see live or even share the stage including kd lang\, Corb Lund\, Buddy Guy and Maria Muldaur.\n\n“Jolene Higgins aka Little Miss Higgins\, has a sexy jazz cabaret voice which is almost more at home in the 1920s than it is today\, yet is still timeless.” – L.A. Beat.\n\n“It’s up to Miss Higgins to bring the sass and the sweet. The lady does not disappoint; revelling in the seamless backing which allows her to lay out the full range of her impressive vocal talents.” – Cashbox.\n\n“Put on your finest duds and get ready for a night out on the town with this collection of country swing\, elegantly understated blues and jazz\, and a touch of honky-tonk thrown in for good measure. Sure\, you might call this … old-timey\, but it shouldn’t be perceived as a criticism\, since it’s neither dated nor derivative. Everything … is as pleasantly charming as Higgins herself\, and feels just as comfortable as your favourite pair of cowboy boots.” – New Music Canada.
